An example of a client's story:
Helen hated to ask for help...but as she got older, everyday tasks became more difficult. Helen was a widow and her children lived far away. Some of her friends had gone to live in the nursing home but Helen wasn't ready for that. She wanted to keep living in the home and community in which she had raised her family. All she needed was a little help. So she called the RSVP Volunteer Caregiver Project. A staff person visited Helen and they talked about what help she needed most. A volunteer was found to help Helen with basic things such as vacuuming and laundry, which she can no longer do by herself. The volunteer also takes Helen to the local grocery store twice a month to do her shopping or to the drug store or bank. Sometimes they stop at the cafe for lunch or coffee. Helen doesn't worry so much about being able to stay in her home and her kids feel better knowing the RSVP Volunteer Caregiver Project is looking out for and helping their mother when they can't be there.
